About Anthony Precourt
Chairman and Investor-Operator - Columbus Crew and Crew Stadium
As the Managing Partner of Precourt Sports Ventures, LLC (PSV), Anthony Precourt became the second Investor-Operator in the 18-year history of the Columbus Crew on July 30, 2013. A native of Denver, Colorado and current resident of the San Francisco Bay Area, Anthony brings an accomplished professional background in the investment management industry to his new role as the Chairman of the Columbus Crew, one of Major League Soccer’s charter franchises, and the manager of Crew Stadium, the League’s first soccer-specific venue.
Since 2008, Precourt has been the Managing Partner of Precourt Capital Management (PCM). PCM’s principal lines of business are investment management services and private equity investing in the energy sector. In 2012, Anthony formed Precourt Sports Ventures, LLC (PSV) to combine two passions – investments and sports. As part of a diversification strategy into sports-entertainment, Precourt Sports Ventures was formed to pursue investments in both team sports and other related sports-entertainment verticals with a particular interest in the growing sport of soccer. After a thorough analysis, the former soccer player and current youth soccer coach focused PSV’s team ownership prospects on Major League Soccer.
Starting his career in investment banking, Precourt focused on corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions with both Merrill Lynch and Deutsche Banc Alex Brown. Later, he moved to WHV Investment Management, a $12 billion dollar public equity investment management company, where he worked in a variety of executive positions in security analysis, portfolio management, and research that led to his ascension to the firm’s senior management team.
Precourt’s primary philanthropic focus has been the Precourt Foundation, which has focused on making a positive impact in the Precourt family’s local communities. Major grants have focused on energy efficiency, education/scholarships, and healthcare.
An active community participant, Precourt is currently serving his children’s school as a capital campaign co-chair, as well as a youth soccer and lacrosse coach. He played competitive sports (soccer, hockey, and lacrosse) starting from an early age through graduate school. This included serving as the captain of the club lacrosse team at Pepperdine University, where Anthony received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He later earned an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. In his free time, Precourt enjoys skiing, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his wife and three children.
