Columbus Crew Owner/Director Lamar Hunt, Jr. and Brand Ambassador Frankie Hejduk paid a visit to Shady Lane Elementary School on Monday morning to inspire second graders to pursue college in their future. Frankie led the classes in a "We are MASSIVE!" chant before sharing his story of hard work in school and on the field. Lamar Hunt, Jr. then read the book "I Know I Can" aloud, which taught the children the importance of working hard toward a college education.
The event was part of the I Know I Can program, which helps Columbus City Schools students enter and succeed in college. Following the presentation. each of the students was given a voucher for a free ticket to an upcoming Crew match.
Crew Brand Ambassador Frankie Hejduk joined local sportscasters Clay Hall, David Wilkinson and Matt Barnes, along with Max & Erma's President Steve Weis, in the “Monster Meat” eating challenge benefitting the Boys and Girls Clubs of Columbus with Max & Erma’s & Ringling Bros. Thursday afternoon at the Schottenstein Center.
Hejduk and the others went head-to-head with seven Asian elephants in the competition, with the humans eating Max & Erma's sliders and the elephants devouring carrots, bread, watermelon and lettuce.
Lacking appetite, the former Crew and U.S. Men's National Team defender only finished four sliders to finish well-behind the sportscasters. The real winner in the end was the kids of Columbus as Max & Erma's donated $18,000 to Boys and Girls Clubs.
ANOTHER HOME UNBEATEN STREAK ON THE LINE, THOUGH
The Crew may be starting over on a regular-season home unbeaten streak overall, but the Black & Gold do hold another home unbeaten streak that will be tested this weekend against Colorado ... the Crew is unbeaten (5-0-2) in its last seven home matches against the Rapids dating back to a 1-0 Crew win on June 11, 2005 ... the match that began the Crew’s home unbeaten streak against the Rapids featured many Crew-Rapids ties ... for the Rapids, Pablo Mastroeni (still active) made the start and Jeff Cunningham suited up at forward for the Rapids, while current Colorado forward Edson Buddle made an appearance for the Crew ... in that match, the Crew’s Cornell Glen buried a penalty kick before later joining the Rapids in 2006.
GAVEN AND MARSHALL NAVIGATE THE RAPIDS
Eddie Gaven and Chad Marshall may be without a goal through nine games in 2013, but the two Crew veterans have seen plenty of success in their regular-season careers against Colorado ... Gaven has scored three goals and recorded one assist in 14 starts while Marshall has two goals and two assists in 14 starts against the Rapids.
THREE-MATCH HOMESTAND WRAPS-UP
After playing five of its first seven matches of 2013 on the road, the Crew completes a three-match homestand on Saturday against Colorado -- the Crew’s longest regular- season homestand of the year ... the last time the Black & Gold played three consecu- tive regular-season matches at home was back in July of 2010 ... during that span, the Crew went 2-1-0 which featured two shutouts and one attacking shutout ... in the current homestand, the Crew has shut-out D.C. 3-0 on April 27 and was held scoreless against New York 1-0 on May 4.
GAVEN SUFFERING PLENTY OF FOULS...
Eddie Gaven suffered five fouls last Saturday against New York -- a match in which the Black & Gold were fouled 18 times ... Gaven is the second-most fouled player in MLS this year and has been fouled 24 times in seven matches, trailing only FC Dallas’ David Ferreira who has been fouled 33 times in nine games played ... Gaven has been fouled five times in a match three times this season including last Saturday’s contest -- adding to identical amounts from the March 2 match at Chivas USA and the April 20 clash at Chicago.
... AND GAVEN’S ABOUT TO BECOME THE MOST-FOULED CREW PLAYER
With 404 fouls suffered in a Crew uniform in 206 games played for the Black & Gold, Eddie Gaven is just four fouls suffered away from becoming the most-fouled Crew player in club history ... Gaven enters Saturday three fouls behind Brian McBride (407 fouls suffered, 161 games played) ... the Crew midfielder is the only active member on the club’s all-time list for fouls suffered and after suffering an average of 3.4 fouls per- game thus far in 2013, he may capture the lead on Saturday.
A PAIR OF STARTS FOR TCHANI
Tony Tchani has made consecutive starts in the central midfield for the Black & Gold, the first time Tchani has seen back-to-back starts in 2013 ... Tchani’s 90 minutes in both matches thus far on the homestand is the first time since June 16, 2012 (at New England) and June 23, 2012 (at Chicago) in which Tchani made consecutive starts and played a full 90 for Robert Warzycha.
Though the Crew's loss to the New York Red Bulls saw the Black & Gold fall in most national media outlets' Power Rankings, the club also remains in the top 10 most outlets' rankings. After 10 weeks of the 2013 MLS Season, Sports Illustrated and MLSSoccer.com have the Crew ranked the highest in the ninth spot.

Crew defender Josh Williams was named to MLSSoccer.com's Team of the Week for Week Ten after a commanding performance against the New York Red Bulls. Williams is the third Crew player to earn Team of the Week honors in 2013 after Jairo Arrieta and Danny O'Rourke were named in Week Nine.
The Black & Gold welcome the Colorado Rapids to Crew Stadium at 7:30 P.M. ET. Plenty of great ticket packages remain available for purchase.
After the match against New York, the Black & Gold headed to L-Yoga Flow for a little regeneration and stretching. Here is a tweet L-Yoga sent out after their session.

Just as Chad Marshall did against the Philadelphia Union on April 6, Colorado Rapids defender Drew Moor surpassed the 20,000 minutes played mark last week against Toronto FC to become the 47th field player to reach the milestone. As the two latest members of the 20,000-minute Club, Marshall and Moor are two of seventeen active players to surpass the mark.
Here is a look at how the veteran centerbacks' careers compare through 20,000 minutes ahead of the Crew's clash with the Rapids on Saturday night (7:30 P.M./FOX Sports Ohio).

The Crew and Rapids met just one time last season as the Black & Gold fell at Dick's Sporting Goods Park to open 2012. Before the two sides meet at Crew Stadium on Saturday, let's look back at the match from last year.
Returning to where the 2011 season ended with an early MLS Cup Playoffs exit, the Crew traveled to Colorado to start the 2012 season. Though the cast had changed, the Black & Gold faced a similar result falling 2-0. Drew Moor and Quincy Amarikwa each scored for the Rapids from a pair of Kosuke Kimura assists just before the halftime and full-time whistles. Milovan Mirosevic led the Crew offensively, getting off two attempts on Matt Pickens' goal.
