Crew striker Olman Vargas was called into Costa Rican national team camp on Sunday ahead of La Sele's 2012 FIFA World Cup Qualifier on June 8 against El Salvador in San José. Los Ticos will then play its second Group Stage match in Guyana on June 12.

Vargas' lone appearance for his country came in friendly against Honduras on April 11, where he scored Costa Rica's only goal in the 1-1 draw.

The striker is expected to be back and ready to go for the Black & Gold's next match when the Crew travels to New England on June 16.

Newest Crew signee is on his way to Columbus! Jairo Arrieta will join the Black & Gold for a week of training this week then head back to Costa Rica before joining the club later in the Month to help bolster the attack. Welcome Jairo!

Robert Warzycha gave the Crew a break on Thursday and Friday, let's take a look at how some of the players enjoyed their day off with some help from Twitter:

Center back Josh Williams took a drive up I-71 to his hometown of Copley, Ohio to enjoy some downtime:


His partner in central defense Eric Gehrig also made a trip home to Northwest Indiana, or as the locals affectionately call it: "The Region."


The pride of New Jersey, Dilly Duka, headed home to the Garden State, but not without a trip to the Big Apple.


With the Memorial Tournament happening this weekend in Columbus, a few members of the team decided to cheer on the likes of Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, and Rickie Fowler.

In this edition of Throwback Thursday, we pay homage to the most infamous jersey in US National Team history: the denim kit. Here is Crew assistant coach Mike Lapper's head shot wearing the star-laden uniform. Lapper represented the United States in the 1994 World Cup on home soil.

The surging Columbus Crew got first-half goals from Eddie Gaven and Emilio Rentería and extended its unbeaten streak to five games with a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Fire Saturday at Crew Stadium. The Crew (5-4-3, 18 pts.), winners of two straight and 3-0-2 in its last five, moved into a tie for fourth place in the Eastern Conference with Chicago.

Crew forward Justin Meram was inducted into the NJCAA Men’s Soccer Hall of Fame on May 18. Meram spent two years at Yavapai College, where he owns the school record for career points with 132. He led the Prescott, Ariz., school to back-to-back national titles in 2007 and 2008 while compiling 51 goals and contributing to a 50-2-0 overall team record. He was named Most Valuable Player of the 2007 NJCAA National Tournament and NSCAA National Player of the Year in 2008. Meram subsequently played two seasons at the University of Michigan, capped by a College Cup appearance in his senior season with the Wolverines. Meram was selected in the first round of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft (No. 12 overall) and has appeared in 20 matches scoring two goals – both of which have come in the Crew’s last two games.
