The Columbus Crew does not confine its efforts to the field of play. Beyond wins, losses and entertainment is the club's commitment to making a difference in its community.
Each summer, the Crew partners with the Columbus Metropolitan Library to offer a unique program called “Get A Kick Out of Reading.” K-12 students that read for 90 minutes each week (the length of a soccer match) during the month of August each receive two tickets to a select Crew game and a meet and greet opportunity with former Crew captain and U.S. Men's National Team star Frankie Hejduk.
Summer Reading
More than 200 participants from the Crew's "Get a Kick Out of Reading" summer challenge attended the September 29, 2012 match and had the chance to meet Crew legend Frankie Hejduk. The Crew partnered with the Columbus Metropolitan Library this summer to offer this unique program. K-12 students that read for 90 minutes each week (the length of a soccer match) during the month of August each received two tickets to the game and a meet and greet opportunity with the former Crew captain and U.S. Men's National Team star. Frankie read from soccer-themed children's books and signing autographs at the event.
Home Town Hero
The Columbus Crew is proud to recognize the brave men and women of our armed forces before every Crew home match through the Hometown Heroes program. Hometown Heroes honors a military member, past or present, with a pregame on-field announcement, ceremony and complimentary game tickets. If you would like to be considered for our Hometown Hero program or would like to nominate a loved one to get a Crew salute.
