Columbus Crew President Mark McCullers, Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter and Brand Ambassador Frankie Hejduk spent Tuesday afternoon going door-to-door delivering Thanksgiving dinners to families of The American Addition neighborhood in North Central Columbus. The Crew representatives were joined by Tray Lee Center Executive Director Marie Moreland to provide each family with a turkey, family-style side dish and pumpkin pie courtesy of the Columbus Crew.
With time on his hands during the offseason, Crew goalkeeper Matt Lampson recently took advantage of the time away from the training ground to pen a blog for the Huffington Post about his fight and triumph over Stage 4B Hodgkins Lymphoma. Lampson details the hurdles he faced following the diagnosis and his efforts to fight the disease with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Frankie Hejduk and Matt Lampson joined forces with the YMCA of Central Ohio as celebrity riders for their annual RideSTRONG event which raised more than $85,000 for LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA, a program offered at no cost to cancer survivors. The program allows survivors to move beyond cancer in spirit, mind and body.
Crew players Justin Meram, Shawn Sloan and Eric Gehrig joined Frankie Hejduk on Monday to take over Fairbrook Elementary School during the annual “Crew Takes Over Your School” event. The players spent the afternoon assisting the children during lunch, participating in various activities during recess and teaching the children about the importance of staying active both mentally and physically through their Active Bodies, Active Minds assembly. Fairbrook Elementary was chosen as a result of their high participation in the Crew’s Educator Appreciation Night on June 15 which brought out more than 2,000 total educators through the Ohio Education Association.
Crew players Bernardo Anor, Federico Higuain, Jairo Arrieta, Matias Sanchez and Augustin Viana made a special delivery to the Mid-Ohio Foodbank this week in conjunction with the Crew’s ¡Viva el Fútbol! celebration presented by Lifeline of Ohio for Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15- October 15).
At four different Crew home match dates throughout the 2013 season, fans were encouraged to bring canned food items to the Crew Stadium gates as part of the Crew and Sodexo Fight Hunger Food Drive. As a result of this drive, the two organizations were able to donate over 6,000 pounds of canned food which is enough to feed roughly 2,000 families.

The Crew welcomed special guest Parker MacDonald to Crew Stadium on Saturday night through the club's Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Hero program. Part of Parker’s experience was the opportunity to come down onto the field for a post-match meet and greet with starting goalkeeper Matt Lampson.
Prior to the USA vs. Mexico World Cup Qualifier at Crew Stadium on September 10th, MLS WORKS partnered with the Columbus Crew to conduct a Crew Massive Makeover of the Linden Village Green Space Community Garden.
Crew players teamed up with The Ohio Bass Federation and The Military Order of The Purple Heart for the inaugural Casting with the Crew event at O’Shaughnessy Reservoir. With two tickets to the US vs. Mexico World Cup Qualifier on the line, Drew Beckie helped lead his boat to the victory, sending Purple Heart recipient Jacob Tate from Lima to the match. After the weigh in ceremony and the tickets were handed out, the entire group was treated to a great BBQ lunch provided by Kroger.
Crew midfielders Kevan George and Tony Tchani volunteered at Faith Mission Community Kitchen, near Crew Stadium Monday afternoon. The players assisted in serving lunch, as well as preparing future meals for local families in need.
