CREW SELECTIONS IN THE 2013 MLS SUPPLEMENTAL DRAFT

Round 1: 9th Overall - Reed Matte, D UAB

What Scouts Say: "Quintessential outside back ... Went forward decently ... he's a good player ... Very consistent sort of soldier, dogged player ... if you're watching a game he's not going to stand out or wow you but he's very consistent ... doesn't put a foot wrong ... good athleticism and made good decisions on the ball ... Weakness is possibly his athleticism and you want to be exceptional at one thing and he's not ... Reed is very fast and he is a good defender ... Exceptional going forward ... Had a major impact in the UAB attack ... Has everything a coach wants: big, fast, skillful, works incredibly hard, gets into the attack and good 1-v-1 defender ... Very good service .. Serves ball cleanly with either foot ... Can cut inside and score goals himself ... He likes to get forward, beat players 1-v-1 and get on the outside but he can also combine with forwards and other players cuttting inside ... He will play in MLS. He's not borderline ... Pretty solid with the ball ... Makes pretty good decisions ... Not sure about his pace at the next level ... Good defender and powerful right back ... Thick ... Don't know about his football brain ... He comes forward but it leaves their back four completely exposed ... He'll work all day for you."

A Preseason All-Conference USA Honoree at the University of Alabama-Birmingham ... a member of the Portland Timbers U-23 team for the 2011 and 2012 summer seasons.

Round 2: 28th Overall - Daniel Withrow, GK Marshall

What Scouts Say: "He's good ... Nice kid, hard worker, tough as nails ... Vocal, commands back four... comes up with excellent saves ... you have to beat him and it's not easy ... Keeps team in games ... Very good in the air on crosses ... Got a good frame for a GK ... Quick, gets down low in a hurry for a guy his size and his distribution is very good as well ... Used on free kicks and he could put a ball on a dime inside the box ... Scored a game winner in his junior year against South Carolina after saving a penalty kick in the same game ... Needs to work on extending his range a little, even outside the 18 ... Could work a little bit on his left foot, but that's pretty much it .. Conference player of the year in Conference USA ... Kept Marshall in a lot of games and broke all-time shutout record at Marshall."

Round 4: Shawn Sloan, MF High Point University

First Team All-Big South honoree for all four years of his college career at High Point University (2009-2012) ... Led team with six goals in freshman season, also adding two assists and earning Big South Freshman of the Year honors ... Started all 21 games for High Point in 2010, scoring eight goals and eight assists. Named ESPN Academic All-American ... Started 20 of 21 games in the 2011 season and led the team with seven assists, also adding three goals ... Played 15 games in 2012, starting 13, but managed a career-high 10 assists to go along with his six goals. Earned NSCAA Third Team All-South Atlantic Region honors, named Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
