Crew coach Robert Warzycha:

On the match…
“We were waiting a long time for a win so the taste is sweeter than usual. It was good that we scored early in the second half, and then we followed that with another beautiful goal. You see how important Eddie (Gaven) is to this team, even after missing just a few games, he came back and was one of the best players on the field.”

On having Eddie Gaven back today…
“He scored a beautiful goal that gave us three points today. We didn’t plan to have him on the field for 90 minutes but under the circumstances we had to.  ”

On having any doubts about playoffs after tough stretch…
“I didn’t to be honest with you. A lot of good teams hit a wall at some point in their season. We hit the wall a little bit late but we still have two games left and I think we can win them. When you lose games you lose a bit of confidence. Sometimes it’s very difficult to pick up the pieces. With the win today, I think we are moving forward.”

On the difference between first and second half…
“We pressured in the first half and were missing the ball by an inch. In the second half we played exactly the same, but we were a little more fortunate and the ball bounced our way. We did well attacking, defended well, and we won.”

On Chad Marshall…
“Chad’s ankle wasn’t feeling good so we decided, especially playing at home, to give him a rest and not risk a worse injury.”

On Miranda’s run…
“I see Sebastian (Miranda) going forward a lot, especially at home, but sometimes we don’t give him the ball. That was an individual play by Sebastian (Miranda). He beat a guy, the cross was perfect and it was the right timing. If he would have taken another touch the defender may have been in a better position.”

Crew defender Sebastian Miranda:

On his game winning assist…
“Since we were a little bit further ahead, I saw a lot of DC players in the box, so I tried to cross it a little higher above their heads. It was really helpful that Eddie connected and won the game for us.”

On his run leading to the assist…
“When I got to the midfielder, I nutmegged him, and the defender didn’t step forward on me, so I just kept going.”

On playing with Eddie again…
“Eddie’s a very good player, I’m more comfortable playing with him. He knows the position very well and he drives the midfield. He’s a very good and very smart player.”

Crew midfielder Eddie Gaven:

On the match…
“It was great, the team played really well tonight. After not winning in our last six games it feels really good to come back and get a win tonight.”

On playing 90 minutes…
“I just wanted to go out there and try to help the team anyway that I could. Whether it was for 45 or whether it was for 90, I wasn’t sure before the game, but it’s all about the team and I’m just trying to help the team anyway that I can.”

On how he felt going into the match…
“I haven’t played in a game in seven to eight weeks. It’s obviously totally different to train and then to play in a game atmosphere, so I wasn’t sure how it was going to go, but I think all in all it went really well.”

DC coach Olsen:

On the match…
“We were unlucky on the first goal. On the second one we didn’t do so well. Overall though, I thought the back four did well, and I appreciate their effort. In the end though, it’s a disappointing loss.”

On the feeling of losing after starting so well…
“The feeling’s not too much different than Thursday. It’s not fun to lose these games. I thought overall it was a good effort, but we took those two plays off and you can’t do that down the stretch.”

On Andy (Najar)’s performance and shot at the end…
“It was a good effort and it was pretty close. We had a couple good chances there at the end to tie it up. It’s a tough result for us, but we just have to get back to work. I think the break comes at a good time. Most of the guys put in a great effort a couple days after a big match in Philly. The showed a lot of heart, but it’s still disappointing.”

On other attacking positives…
“It wasn’t a great offensive performance from us, but I though Andy was pretty sharp. As far as offense, he was definitely the one that stuck out. The other guys, they put in good shifts. I though Ngwenya put in a good shift and Charlie ran hard. Overall it wasn’t the greatest offensive night for us, but they put good effort in.”

DC forward Joseph Ngwenya:

On the match…
“We’re disappointed. It’s disappointing to lose a game where we took the lead in the first half and set them up of the first goal. It’s just disappointing overall.”

On importance of next game after recent results…
“All the games from here on out are important. This one was important and the next game is very important. We can’t do anything about this one, it’s over, so we have to look forward to the next four games and take care of business at home. ”

On the physical battle with James and O’Rourke…
“They’re tough, they push you around and they’re good defenders. I thought Charlie played well with them and I thought that Charlie and I won some one-on-ones, but they did well and are very tough to play against.”

DC forward Charlie Davies:

On the match…
“If we could have kept it 1-0 for a little while longer I think it would have turned out alright for us. We’ve got four games left now and now Vancouver’s a must win, and we got three East opponents so every game’s a must win.”

On morale after last two games…
“It’s definitely a tough situation for us to handle, but since the games are so important, one after another, you kind of have to forget about it and move onto the next. We have a little while till Vancouver so we’re probably going to sulk for a little while, but we need to regroup and erase this stuff from our memories and get ready for Vancouver.”

On physical battle with center-backs…
“They’re very physical players. They like to get a lot of contact and slow you down and they definitely did a good job today.”

On first time in Columbus…
“I thought it was great. The atmosphere was great and the stadium was great. The facilities here are very good and I think it’s a great place to play.”
