Postgame Quotes - Houston Dynamo

Postgame quotes from players and coaches

Crew head coach Robert Warzycha

Impressions on the game
“Obviously we gave up the last goal so I am a bit disappointed in the result. We had a couple more chance that, with a little bit of luck, would’ve won this game, but we only got a point. Coming back from being down 1-0 we showed a lot of character and scored two goals and I think we played pretty good soccer tonight.”

On the lineup changes especially Vukovic and Williams in the backline
“For the most part [Nemanja Vukovic and Josh Williams] they were solid, their lack of games and experience showed a bit in the end, but overall I think they had a decent game”

On scoring twice but only getting a point
“I think this is something that we can build on, The game in Philadelphia (4/14) was pretty solid, the second half against New York here (4/7) was pretty good, and today with some new guys in the lineup I think we did pretty good.”

Crew midfielder Eddie Gaven
Impressions on the Game
“I think the boys worked really hard tonight. We were winning balls in the middle of the field, hitting balls out wide giving us time to create chances. It was tough that we gave up that goal late. This was a game that we should’ve won.”

On the second half attack
“We just kept on trying to throw guys at them, we were sending wave after wave hoping that something was going to break down. We scored two nice goals, we probably could’ve scored three or four. We just need to keep on working hard but there is definitely some good things that we can take away from this game and build upon.”

Crew defender Josh Williams
On his first start
“It was fun, a dream became a reality tonight and it was definitely a blast to play out there and get my first start in the league. I think the game in Toronto and against Montreal really helped me prepare for tonight.

On playing in front of his home crowd in his home state
“It was great. I grew up watching these guys play and it was also my birthday this week so I had about 30 or 40 people from my hometown here to watch me so it was fun playing in front of them”

Crew midfielder Danny O’Rourke
On the game
“It was a bit disappointing because we tied. I think we had better of the run of play and I felt we weren’t threatened that much. Credit to them for scoring two good goals but it’s disappointing because I felt we deserved to win tonight.”

On him playing the holding midfielder position
“I feel comfortable in that position and I think I can contribute more to the team.”

Looking ahead to Vancouver next week
“Vancouver has some very talented players. It will be a challenge to play against [Davide] Chiumiento when he’s in the middle of the field and we have to be aware of him. [Eric] Hassli is also very good. We will watch some film on them this week and get back to work to get the positive results”

Dynamo assistant coach Wade Barrett
Overall thoughts on the match
“We're happy to come away with the point. I thought the team started the second half really well. We came out pretty sharp and got a good goal. We're disappointed that we gave up that goal against so quickly and so poorly. It's definitely something we I think we can prevent. We let them back into the game. Then [the Crew] kind of wore on top of us for a while.”

On the Crew's lineup changes
“We knew there might be a couple changes in their lineup. Their coaching staff has implemented a style and no matter who they put out there, it was going to be to their gameplan.”

On the importance of coming away with another point on the road
“It's important to get three points. We try to get three points every game we play. We're a little disappointed that we maybe let an opportunity slip away for three points. We walk away with one and it's not so bad.”

Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall
On the defensive gaffe that led to the Crew's first goal
“I think it was a series of unfortunate bounces. I think Andre [Hainault] was trying to head it back to me and if that happens, then it's in my hands and we're in the clear. It's in between and then it bounces awkwardly to Geoff [Cameron], he tries to play it back and it's a difficult ball for him to do anything with- it's in his lap. [The Crew] took advantage of the fact that we made a couple of mistakes in a row. It's unfortunate. We can prevent that goal from happening.”

On the importance of another road point
“I think both teams are going to be saying that they're not happy with just one point and three points should have been their's. I think we're in the same boat. I've been proud of the way we've defended, not giving up goals. To give up two goals like that, it's disappointing. We know we're a good defensive team, so to give up a lead is disappointing for us. At the same time, we came back 2-1 down and scored a great, late goal. Great effort, we're walking out of here with a point. I think it's probably a fair result.”

Dynamo forward Will Bruin
On his goal to put the Dynamo ahead 1-0
“Moffatt whipped in a good ball and I had position. I just tried to bring my momentum far post because I saw the goalie was sitting on the near post. I just tried to flick it far post and it went in. “

On what makes Houston a threat on set pieces
"We're just a big team. Houston is known for set pieces. It's a very big part of our game. [Dynamo head coach] Dom [Kinnear] integrates that into our style of play that set piece can win or lose the game. It comes down to not being clicked in on one set piece or if you beat your man, you can win a game 1-0 or 2-1 off a set piece. It's a very important part of the game and Dom emphasizes it.”

On the importance of getting a point on the road
“It's huge. We went up, then we were unfortunate and put ourselves in a hole, but we found a way to come back and get a point out of them.”
