Crew captain and playmaker Federico Higuaín broke a tie that lasted 50 minutes with a deft finish from 25 yards out to put the Black & Gold ahead 1-0 in Saturday's season opener against Chivas USA. Josh Williams and Dominic Oduro provided insurance goals late in the match to help the Crew start its 2013 campaign with three points in hand.
