2014 to be fourth consecutive year English opposition visits Columbus

Crystal Palace FC is slated to play the Black & Gold at Crew Stadium on Wednesday, July 23. It's the 10th English opponent to face the Crew, which is 3-4-2 all-time in such contests.

In fact, Crystal Palace FC's visit will mark the fourth consecutive summer that the Crew has hosted an English side. Let's take a look back at each of the past three summers and the Crew's performance in international friendlies:

2013: Columbus Crew 1-2 Wigan Athletic

The Black & Gold hosted then-reigning FA Cup champions Wigan Athletic at Crew Stadium on July 13, 2013. Columbus lost by a 2-1 final, with Ryan Finley scoring from an Eric Gehrig assist in the contest. James McCarthy and Marc-Antione Fortune tallied for the visitors.

2012: Columbus Crew 2-1 Stoke City

The Crew hosted current Crystal Palace FC manager Tony Pulis' Stoke City side on July 24, 2012. Jonathan Walters opened the scoring for the Potters, but Aaron Horton equalized in the 71st minute and Ben Speas won the match for the Black & Gold 16 minutes later.

2011: Columbus Crew 0-3 Newcastle United

Newcastle United visited Crew Stadium on July 26, 2011. Shola Amoebi scored for the Magpies in the ninth minute, and the visitors added two additional tallies in the second half.
