Crew set to honor Donovan before Saturday's match
With MLS and United States National Team great Landon Donovan retiring at the end of the season, Saturday's contest in Columbus marks his final appearance at Crew Stadium.
It's the first stop on Donovan's farewell tour, and it comes at the spiritual home of U.S. Soccer, none other than at One Black & Gold Boulevard.
Donovan has enjoyed his share of memorable moments for both club and country over the years in Columbus, making Saturday's final appearance a special one.
The Columbus Crew organization is set to honor Donovan through a pre-match ceremony that fans won't want to miss. A special commemorative item is being presented to Donovan by the Crew, celebrating his ties to Columbus. He's played in three of the famous "Dos a Cero" contests for his country, won an MLS Cup in 2001 and played in the 2005 MLS All-Star Game at Crew Stadium.
The ceremony is slated to begin just before kickoff of Saturday's match (7:30 p.m. ET). Gates open at 6:00 p.m. ET and fans can send their well-wishes of gratitude to Donovan by using the hashtag #ThanksLD.
Saturday's match is followed by post-match fireworks, presented by Scioto Downs Racino.
