PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
2017 (Columbus): Stuver served as the backup goalkeeper during 26 matches this season. He served as the backup goalkeeper during the first five matches of the season. Stuver did not make an appearance in seven matches starting from the match against Chicago (April 8) to the match against Montreal (May 13) after being listed as questionable those weeks with a right elbow strain. He returned as the backup goalkeeper in 18 consecutive matches, from a road contest against the New England Revolution (May 21) to a road match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC (September 16). He served as the backup goalkeeper in a home match against D.C. United (September 30), in a road contest against Orlando City SC (October 15) and in a road match against New York City FC (October 22). Stuver started in an international friendly match at home against Eintracht Frankfurt (July 14) and recorded his first shutout of 2017. Stuver served as the backup goalkeeper in five matches in the Audi 2017 MLS Cup Playoffs. He served as the backup goalkeeper in five consecutive matches for the Black & Gold, from a road match against Atlanta United FC (October 26) in the Eastern Conference Knockout Round to a road contest against Toronto FC (November 29) in the Second Leg of the Eastern Conference Championship.
2016 (Columbus): Stuver made two appearances (two starts) for Crew SC in 2016. He served as Steve Clark's backup in the season opener at Portland (March 6) and in all Crew SC matches through the contest vs. Orlando (July 23). He started and played 90 minutes in the international friendly against Veracruz (May 11) and kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 win. After a one-match absence, returned as Clark's backup vs. New York City (August 13) and in every match through the contest vs. New England (September 25). After another one-match absence, returned as Clark's backup vs. Chicago (October 1) and at Chicago (October 13). He made his MLS debut at New York Red Bulls (October 16) where he recorded six saves, one of them denying a penalty kick. He also started at New York City FC (October 23) and recorded two saves. He made two appearances in the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. He started the match against Tampa Bay (June 15) and registered a clean sheet with four saves as part of a 4-0 win and again started in the Round of 16 clash at Chicago (June 28), recording one save.
2015 (Columbus): Stuver did not make a First-Team appearance in 2015. The goalkeeper served as Steve Clark’s backup in the club’s match at San Jose (May 16) and in all League matches following, including all of Crew SC's contests in the Audi 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs. Stuver started the club’s international friendly vs. Valencia CF (May 27), playing all 90 minutes. He also started in Crew SC’s 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Fourth Round contest at Richmond (June 17), helping the club earn a 3-1 victory. He again started in the Round of 16 at Orlando (June 30).
2014 (Columbus/Dayton/Wilmington): Stuver did not make a League appearance for Columbus during the 2014 season. He spent time on-loan with the Dayton Dutch Lions and the Wilmington Hammerheads of USL PRO. He did not make an appearance with Dayton in USL PRO League action in 2014, but was the primary back-up in the match against Richmond (April 26) and against LA Galaxy II (May 10). He missed time beginning in June with a left ankle arthroscopy. Stuver was loaned to USL PRO’s Wilmington Hammerheads FC for the remainder of the season (August 4). He made his debut for Wilmington in a home match against Dayton (August 9) and continued his run in the club’s starting lineup for the club’s next 11 matches, earning three clean sheets and the honor of being named to USL-PRO’s Team of the Week for Week 24. He did not dress for both the club’s postseason opener against New England (November 1) or in the second leg at the Revolution (November 9). Stuver started in two Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup matches for Dayton: against Schwaben AC (May 15) and in the 5-2 loss against Indy Eleven (May 28).
2013 (MLS Pool Goalkeeper): Stuver was drafted in the Second Round, 32nd overall, by the Montreal Impact in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft. He spent 2013 as an MLS pool goalkeeper and made appearances in gameday rosters for Columbus, New England, Real Salt Lake and Chivas USA.
COLLEGE EXPERIENCE
Stuver compiled a 33-27-7 record in four seasons collegiately at Cleveland State University, including a senior season in which he started all 20 of his team’s matches, posting a 11-6-3 record with a 0.86 goals against average. As a junior and a senior, he earned Second Team All-Horizon League honors after being tabbed Horizon League Goalkeeper of Year and All-Horizon League First Team honors as a sophomore. He posted a team-best 58 saves in his freshmen season in just 10 starts, becoming the number one goalkeeper for the Vikings by the end of his first campaign.
YOUTH SOCCER
Stuver was named to the 2008 Plain Dealer All-Star Team and earned All-Ohio honors after his senior season at Twinsburg High School playing for Mike Lally, finishing his prep career with 24 shutouts in goal and 12 goals and three assists as a midfielder. Stuver was also an Academic All-American during high school.
Stuver was selected fourth overall by Columbus in the 2013 MLS Waiver Draft.
PERSONAL
Stuver is the son of Ron and LeAnne Stuver. He has an older brother, Ryan, and is married to his wife, Ashley. The couple has a dog named Nella. His favorite food is steak. Stuver enjoys action, adventure and comedy movies and he is a big fan of the “Harry Potter” series as well as Netflix. His favorite music is hip-hop, pop and house music, but he has a little bit of everything on his iPod except for country. His favorite place he’s traveled to is Bali, which he visited for his honeymoon. His role model growing up was former Columbus and United States National Team player, and current United States Under-19 National Team head coach Brad Friedel. His favorite non-MLS soccer team is Friedel’s former club, Blackburn Rovers, and he also supports the Cleveland Cavaliers. Stuver’s favorite soccer player is currently Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea.
